Fabric Care & Cleaning

Cushion Pros offers a variety of fabrics for its custom cushions and custom pillows!!!

It is important for our customers to know proper cleaning methods
to ensure your custom cushion and/or custom pillow
maintain their new appearance for many years to come.

Cushion Pros does not endorse machine washing.

By following a few cleaning tips, you can maximize the lifetime of your bench cushion, chair cushion, chaise cushion and/or throw pillows, bolster pillows, and lumbar pillows.

1.      Fabric Care

    1. Once a week, remove dirt from the fabric by lightly brushing or vacuuming your custom cushion and/or custom pillow.

                                                              i.      This will prevent dirt from entering the fabric and assist in preserving its appearance.

    1. Turn or reverse the cushions and pillows on your furniture often so that they wear evenly and allow you to notice stains more quickly before they become problematic.

                                                              i.      Avoid deep cleaning by attacking the dirt before it enters the fabric, cleaning up spills as soon as they happen and eliminating stains as quickly as possible.

    1. If you are troubled with wrinkles, use an iron with a "synthetic fabric" heat setting – do not use steam or hot settings.

For specific fabric care instructions relative to your custom cushion, please visit our Fabric Selector tool within the Fabric For Sale tab and select your pattern.

2.      Fabric Cleaning - General

a.       Lightly brush or vacuum your furniture prior to cleaning.

b.      Use a spray bottle to mist your fabric lightly with mild soap and water.

                                                              i.      1/4 cup mild soap per gallon of lukewarm water

ii.      Use a sponge or a soft bristle brush as needed.

    1. Be sure to rinse the item thoroughly to remove any residue that may remain.
    2. Allow your custom cushion and/or custom pillow to air dry.

By investing time into caring for your bench cushions, chair cushions, chaise cushion, bolster pillows, lumbar pillows, and throw pillows, you will increase the useful life of the products.

3.      Fabric Cleaning – Stubborn Stains/Mildew

a.       Lightly brush or vacuum your furniture prior to cleaning.

b.      Use a spray bottle to mist your fabric with mild soap and water.

                                                              i.      1/4 cup mild soap per gallon of lukewarm water

                                                              i.      Use a sponge or a soft bristle brush as needed.

**If your cushions and/or pillows are made of Sunbrella fabrics then you may add up to 1 cup of bleach to your cleaning solution, however be sure to protect the area to prevent damage to anything else in the process**

4.      Fabric Cleaning – Dry Cleaners

a.       Inquire about their experience with cleaning and treating upholstery fabrics but in most cases it is recommended that you do not dry clean your custom cushion and/or custom pillow fabrics.

5.      Fabric Miscellaneous Information

a.       Window glass magnifies the sun's rays regardless of the season, it is important to protect your fabrics from the sun.

b.      Vacuum your fabrics often to remove dust and other substances – preventing problematic stains.

    1. Do not place your fabrics around heating and cooling vents.

Fabrics are not made to promote the growth of mildew
however dirt on the fabric can lead to mildew growth.
No set timetable exists for when fabric should be cleaned, and the local environment
has a great deal to do with determining cleaning frequency.
Cushion Pros recommends investing time and energy to ensure long lasting use
of your custom cushions and custom pillows.
